Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Middle and High School students in West Fargo have reason to cheer - there will be some schedule changes for the next academic year.

The district says it's conducting an experiment in scheduling teacher development during the school week.

The 2014-2015 academic calendar has 12 Wednesdays, when school starts one to two hours later for students.

Teachers will instead work a half-hour earlier.

The Assistant Superintendent says studies show teacher training is better if "consistent and ongoing" rather than periodic daylong workshops.

Students think it's great too,

Jacie Johnson/Student: “I think it's super awesome. I went to Davies for a year and we started an hour late so it was really nice for the kids to have a break once a week.”

Some schools in Fargo and Moorhead already adjust their schedule to accommodate for teacher development.
