Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo South high school student is still hospitalized, a day after a serious swimming accident. The boy was found unconscious in the deep end of the school swimming pool during a phy-ed class.
It's been a day and a half since school officials called the student's condition "serious" after the accident inside this building.
Although school officials are not saying much, today they did tell us the student is still alive and receiving medical attention at a local hospital. They declined an on camera interview with us today, refused to release the student's name and also would not comment on the district's pool-related policy.
Two teachers were on the pool deck yesterday, but district officials will not tell me if either one was lifeguard certified. WDAY spoke with a supervisor at West Fargo's pool, who tells me in their district, no one is allowed in the pool unless a lifeguard is present.
Marsha Dahl - West Fargo Pool Supervisor: “I’m sure they don't have somebody like me in each one of their schools. I don't know what it is that they do. It's really something that you wish would never happen to anybody and hoping for the best of the situation.”
