Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -More than 20,000 people are expected to donate to the Dakota Medical Foundation's Giving Hearts Day online today.
But many organizations involved, like the North Dakota Center for Autism's jumping mascots found creative ways to entice donations in the real world.
The tactics seem to be working as the organization seems poised to break its 2013 total of $3.7 million.
So far today they're 3.5 million. That's with six hours left
Some companies paired up with a charity for the event.
Sandy's Donuts sold a red velvet donut today with double the proceeds going toward the Jail Chaplains Ministry at the Cass County Jail.
Jill Christopher, RMHC executive director: “It is amazing. To have volunteers here from 6 in the morning to 8 at night and take time out of their busy schedules to come here and help promote this to their friends, people at the station, all of that. It means a lot.”
The rockers are trying to raise $4,000 every two hour shift.
Giving Hearts Day ends tonight at midnight.
