Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Many parts of the country are again getting slammed with snow, sleet, freezing rain and ice.

The storm was dumping one to two inches per hour from New York to D.C..

And in Washington D.C., the federal government shutdown after the city got nearly a foot of snow.

Farther south in the Carolinas and Georgia, there were widespread power outages with tree branches snapping under the weight of ice.

Road conditions everywhere were treacherous with mayors and governors issuing the same plea.

Mayor Bill Deblasio, New York City: "I ask you to keep telling people in the city how urgent it is to stay out of their cars to the maximum extent possible for their own safety and also to facilitate the ongoing cleanup work."

This latest blast of winter even forced the cancellation of the Duke-North Carolina college basketball game, leaving fans of the bitter rivals disappointed.
