A natural gas company is looking into the cause of a fire and explosion that "lit up" the night sky near Tioga, North Dakota. The company says the explosion was caused by a rupture in its natural gas pipeline at a compressor station. The orange glow from the fire could be seen for miles. The fire department never had to use its trucks or water, because the company has automatic shut-off valves.

A youth hockey tournament erupted into a locker room brawl between two adults. A set of West Fargo parents and an opposing coach from Canada exchanged words.. then a fight broke out.. leaving one man with a cut lip and black eye. The fight took place at Veterans Memorial Arena. No charges have been filed.

A driver is hospitalized after his car crashed through a guardrail in Duluth, plunged about 60 feet off a cliff, hit a boulder and landed a few feet from Lake Superior. A Duluth man says he called 911 when he discovered the accident near his home Tuesday. That man says he didn't know how long the victim had been in the crashed car, but suspects it had been several hours because the engine was cold. The driver was taken to the hospital. His condition is not known.

We're learning more details about a Facebook photo causing controversy around the St. Paul Police Department. The photo shows a police officer posing in front of a vehicle with an apparently unconscious man inside. The uniformed officer gives the thumbs-up. The words, "A quick pic before I arrest this guy," are Photoshopped over the photo. A source within the department says the photo is a joke and shows an officer with his friend who was sleeping in his car during a break from work. The department is investigating.

Veteran newsman Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with cancer. He was diagnosed in August with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the bone marrow. Doctors are optimistic about his treatment. Brokaw is from Yankton, South Dakota. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1964.
