Team USA and Canada fire up rivalry in Winter Olympics women’s hockey

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -The first showdown of the Olympics comes tomorrow morning as the two best women's hockey teams in the world will face off in the preliminary round.

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -The first showdown of the Olympics comes tomorrow morning as the two best women's hockey teams in the world will face off in the preliminary round.

Canada has won three straight gold medals, all at the expense of Team USA, but the Americans are the reigning world champions in a game that is filled with tension and intensity.

Megan Bozek, Team USA defenseman: “The blood, sweat and tears that go into that game, they're a phenomenal hockey team, we saw them seven times during the season. Definitely momentum and confidence going into the game.”

“We've been waiting for this moment. Coming in here we had to take it one game at a time so it was Finland, Switzerland and now we get to look forward to our biggest biggest rivals, Canada.”

The two teams met in a seven game pre-Olympic tour, Canada won the opening three games, USA won the final four.

Team USA won its first ever luge singles medal by Erin Hamlin from Remsen, New York, it was a bronze.

They have seven total medals.
