Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -You can take a walk back in time, and get to know local heroes of World War II.

The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County is unveiling its newest exhibit, inspired by World War II.

"Doing Our Part" tells the story of how the Fargo-Moorhead community helped the war effort.

Those not fighting did their part, from rationing food to making egg powder for soldiers at the Fairmont creamery.

It took nearly a year to research and build the exhibit.

Kelly Johason, Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County executive director: "All the things we've ever seen in movies and novels, actually played out right here in our very own Fargo-Moorhead area, and these are the hometown heroes."

"Doing Our Part: Clay County in World War II" will be on display at the Hjemkomst Center until December of 2015.
