Grand Forks, ND (WDAY TV) - This week the Bakken and Three Forks oil patches will be in the spotlight in Grand Forks.

A three day shale oil innovation conference and expo will be happening at the Alerus Center.

Oil industry leaders will be leaving behind the oil fields for the comforts of the Alerus Center this week.

Luke Geiver / Editor of The Bakken Magazine: “We have attendees coming to the show from forty-one states and five provinces.”

The three-day event will feature over 100 industry experts, presenting on current and future technologies. With support and input also provided by Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven.

Geiver: “Their perspectives on things they're seeing in regards to the Bakken and developing the Williston basin. Whether it's in regards to Keystone XL or permitting. All those types of issues that they have to deal with.”

With recent headlines having raised concerns over the safety of transporting oil from the Bakken, the expo will also focus on techniques for safe transport

Geiver: “We'll have people talking about actual apparati or man way holes on railcars and how they can redesign those to make them more safe.”

Special attention will also be given to the future of the industry, with events geared towards students and young professionals.

Geiver: “We're also going to be displaying some of the work that some of those students are doing in both the undergraduate and graduate level in terms of research.”

The three day event begins tomorrow with a pre-conference on the many business opportunities available in the Williston Basin.

The conference is being produced by The Bakken Magazine in collaboration with the University of North Dakota College of Engineering and Mines.
