Sabin, MN (WDAY TV) - A Moorhead High School student is being honored by friends and family a year and a half after his death.
Austin Wagar's parents say his spirit rode with them today, as they took off on a snowmobile run in his name.
Dozens of snowmobiles took off one after the other through rural Minnesota, All in memory of one special teenager.
Jamie Olson/Austin’s Mother: "I also read letter that Austin wrote to himself for his senior year, and the first thing on there, what he says he is that he hopes he's still snowmobiling and wakeboarding by the time he is a senior."
Austin Wagar would have been a senior at Moorhead High School this year.
But in August of 2012, he was killed when a car driven by his friend spun out of control on a gravel road.
While in school, Austin played soccer, so the proceeds from the run go toward a new soccer turf at the school.
Olson: "We thought, if we're getting all these people together, why not raise money for a good cause as well."
His parents, Jamie and Scott Olson, want to start a foundation in his name… for others who have lost a child.
Olson: "Anything to help make it easier for them because losing a child is a heck of a lot different than losing a parent or an aunt. The pain is... I can't explain it."
The snowmobile run brought friends, family, and other supporters through towns like Barnesville and Glyndon.
Plus, a special tribute outside of Sabin... near the scene of the crash.
Olson: "We wish he was here with us today, riding. I know he is in spirit, but…"
The driver of the vehicle, Kullen Carney, was sentenced for vehicular homicide this past June.
