Police and emergency vehicles responded to the two vehicle accident around 2:30pm on Friday.
Sgt. Kevin Kallinen/Grand Forks Police: “when officers go there they determined that one man in a car was severely injured.”
The accident happened at the intersection of 14th avenue south and south Columbia road, where a 2004 Audi was struck on the driver's side by a 2001 ford f-150 pickup.
Kallinen: “Altru hospital ambulance transported him to altru hospital and late he passed away at the hospital.”
The driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year old man of Grand Forks, was not injured. His 10 year old passenger, also a grand forks resident was transported to alru hospital for treatment of injuries and released.
Friday's accident resulted in a large section of south Columbia road being shut down for several hours.
Kallinen: “we had to shut down the entire intersection so we could process the scene...especially in a fatal or accident with severe injuries, we call out a specialist, crash reconstruction team.”
The Audi was driving westbound from 14th ave when the vehicle was struck by the pickup truck traveling northbound on south Columbia road.
Kallinen: “The theory we're working on is he was trying to cross even though you're not supposed to cross at that intersection there to go straight across. You can only take a right handed turn.”
The accident remains under investigation by the Grand Forks Police Department.
