West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A new multi-million dollar aquatic center in West Fargo is dead in the water.
The West Fargo City Commission put a 1% sales tax hike on the ballot, and none of that revenue is for the aquatic center.
Talks have been going for 2 years about the project, and a feasibility study done in August found the center would cost about $20 million to build. The city, the school district, the park district and the West Fargo Aquatic Group were all part of the talks, until now.
Sharon Odegaard – President, West Fargo Park Board: "It would be a real draw for everybody, but we knew good and well that it was very expensive and it would be a stretch to get it done. But if all four of us would contribute, we could probably pull it off."
The park board says it will look at what it can do with the land intended for the aquatic center.
