West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - West Fargo Residents will be heading to the polls this June - as they decide whether or not to approve a sales tax hike.

City Commissioners Unanimously decided tonight to give voters the final say.

The tax would go up one percent from 6 point 5 to 7 point 5 percent.

The money will be used for infrastructure projects, like widening Sheyenne Street and the intersection at 32nd Avenue and 40th Street.

This June - you'll find two questions on your ballot.

Rich Mattern/Mayor, West Fargo: “We felt, the commission, that a sales tax would be the fairest way to do it. Everyone will share in paying for it not just the residents. “

It's estimated the tax hike will generate around $100,000,000 over a 20-year period but that money won't cover all the costs.

The city administrator says they have $120,000,000 of project that HAS to be completed over the next 2 decades.
