Sabin, MN (WDAY TV) - A quiet afternoon noon turned tragic for a Sabin family, when their SUV collided with a train at a rural crossing.

One man is dead from that accident.

Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist says the train probably wasn't going very fast when it collided with the car. But it was enough to flip the vehicle.

One man was dead and a woman was airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

She was conscious and talking to paramedics.

The SUV was traveling Eastbound over the tracks, and was hit by the 2-engine train.

The crossing is just on the South edge of town and is marked, but does not have stop-arms.

Bergquist says these types of accidents are, unfortunately, not uncommon in rural areas.

Bill Bergquist/Clay County Sheriff: "Every time something like this does happen, we just remind people that when you do cross these rural intersections that don't have the flashing lights that you may just need to slow down and make sure you look both ways before you do cross them."

Whether seatbelts were used is not clear.

No workers on the train were injured.
