FARGO – The latest changes at The Hub will make you laugh. A comedy club has been added to the Fargo entertainment complex.
Prime Comedy Club opens Feb. 14 in the space that was first Prime Steakhouse, and most recently a lounge.
“I think it’s a great date night option,” says Kerry Fernholz, operations manager of Starmark Hospitality, which runs The Hub. He said couples could come for a bite in Sickie’s Garage, catch a comedy set and then a drink at one of the complex’s other bars.
“It’s the perfect size for an intimate comedy club,” says Fargo-based promoter Jade Nielsen. His company, Jade Presents, will manage day-to-day operations of the 100-seat room, as well as booking the space. Jade Presents also books acts for The Venue in The Hub.
Prime Comedy Club will book national and regional acts.
So far the schedule is:
Feb. 14 & 15 – Fargo native, now a Minneapolis performer, Amber Preston; $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show.
Feb. 20 – Professional wrestler, now author and comic, Mick Foley; $25 in advance, $30 the day of the show.
Feb. 27, 28 and March 1 – Fergus Falls, Minn., native and “Conan” veteran, Chad Daniels; $15 in advance, $17 day of the show.
Nielsen, who produced Margaret Cho and Drew Carey shows at the Fargo Theatre late last year and has Mike Birbiglia and Kevin Nealon dates coming up there, said there is definitely an appetite for comedy in the area.
Fernholz said Prime will be a nice option on Fargo’s side of the river to Moorhead’s Courtney’s Comedy Club.
For a short period in the early 2000s Playmakers, which later became The Hub, hosted Tickles Comedy Club.
Fargo comic JD Provorse hosts the events, including an open-mic every Sunday.
Tickets for touring acts will be available at the Tickets300 box office, Sickies Garage, Tickets300.com, or by calling (866) 300-8300. Fees may apply.
