Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Consider this sobering statistic: 2,700 local school children rely on meals from the Great Plains Food Bank every weekend.
The food bank receives funding for the "Backpacks Program" but struggles to feed around 10 percent of the students due to dietary restrictions.
Gluten free and lactose free products do not usually come in bulk sizes, so the program relies on donations for the specialty items.
Cathy Herbold/Great Plains Food Bank Programs Manager: "We want to be able to provide healthy meals that they can have on the weekends so they don't have to struggle. And that's really what this is all about. Providing for those kids who may not have food otherwise."
If you'd like to donate, call the Great Plains Food Bank at 232-6219.
