BEMIDJI, Minn. (WDAY TV)–The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Minnesota State Patrol has closed Highway 2 from East Grand Forks to Crookston due to heavy blowing snow and blizzard conditions. The highway will remain closed until further notice.

Extremely high winds and snow have created dangerous driving conditions for motorists and no travel is advised in the northern red river valley area. In northwestern Minnesota road conditions vary from hazardous to difficult to fair.

Motorists should visit www.511mn.org before attempting any travel as road conditions range from fair to hazardous throughout northern Minnesota. The North Dakota Department of Transportation has advised no travel north of Fargo.

Motorists are advised not to travel until conditions improve and MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol open the road.

Motorists should plan accordingly. When a road is closed it is illegal to travel in that area. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or sentenced to 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, other expenses and penalties will apply.

For updated information on road conditions, visit www.511mn.org or call 511.
