Otter Tail County, MN (WDAY TV) - It's going to be one of the busiest weekends on top of Lake Lida drawing thirsty crowds to its one of a kind drinking spot Hillbillies Ice Hole Bar.

Between the fishing derby and polar plunge the managers of this bar can't wait.

Once the ice is solid, wintertime is usually pretty easy on a,

"Bluegill, sunfish, rock bass.”

Drop the kids off at school; grab a light lunch, and maybe a game of go fish or two.

But Shhh you hear that?

Josie Norgren/Owner: "I like to refer to it as a college frat party some nights"

On Lake Lida it's a lot harder for a fish to relax since new neighbors at Hillbillies Ice Hole Bar moved in upstairs.

"It's the best bar in Ottertail County."

Any walleye would tell you it's hard not to get caught up in the racket because once you get pulled out, you'll see life on the other side of the ice isn't so different.

"They're just like humans, they come to noise.”

As soon as the surface freezes over.

Norgren: "We prefer to have 16 inches at least."

These fishermen come out to play.

Chad Young/Bar Regular: "If I were a fish and people were pouring beer down the hole, I would like it I guess."

"Well we like to have a few toddies then shake dice and then we like to fish."

Good thing this watering hole makes that easy.

Norgren: "You can just come in here and drop your line down the hole."

Young: "It's just like a mouse in a mouse trap. It's inevitable; they're going to go for the cheese right?"

And if you can't catch them.

"I just caught a seven pounder.”

They'll even serve the fish up to you in a minnow shot.

“Haha.”

That and the noise aren't too popular with the friends swimming beneath the surface.

Norgren: "We haven't had any pop their heads out of the hole and ask us what we're doing."

So no matter how many casted lines connect the two above or below, both sides admit thick ice makes for good neighbors.

The first annual Icehole Plunge begins Saturday afternoon at 3 outside of the bar, the Jaycess are sponsoring both the plunge and fishing derby with all money going to charity.
