Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A new ordinance proposed in West Fargo Schools could make it a lot harder for anyone to enter the building without approval and their signature.
The current ordinance is being reviewed after a Valley News Live Reporter entered the schools, and filmed video, this past December.
It raised flags about student safety and building security.
The newly proposed ordinance was read for the first time at this evening's commission meeting.
Authorities say the new law would give them up to 4-hours to arrest someone who was illegally on school property - before having to get a search warrant.
Mike Reitan/West Fargo Police Department: “under the ordinance if there has been some sort of pre-arrangement made with the visitor and the school than the visitor would not need to need to sign in, otherwise everyone would need to sign in when they came in to the building.”
Commissioners will vote on the ordinance at next month's meeting - February 3rd.
If passed, it would then go into effect.
