Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - We pride ourselves on being hardy up here in the Northland. But sometimes, we amaze even ourselves with the battle we wage on weather.
And, as part of our 60th anniversary, we are looking back at memorable stories.
"60 on 6" tonight takes us to the Gazebo at Island Park, 20 years ago.
A couple that said "I Do" on a day wind chills reached 50-below.
So cold the minister wore a snowmobile suit beneath his vestments.
On a bone chilling December night 20 years ago,
Friends and family of Brad Berger and Netty Knopp gathered at the Gazebo at Island Park. We were in the middle of an Alberta Clipper.
“I have chosen one short scripture lesson.”
Wind chills that day plummeted to 50-below. But the wedding went forward. Ice covered beards and and a ceremony that clipped right along. The clock was ticking. Bodies were freezing. I do could not come fast enough.
“From this day forward, better or worse, sickness and health,”
The story made national news for the next several days. Yet another reason the rest of the country this time of year, shakes its head wondering, how we do it.
The couple just celebrated 20 years together.
And still live in the same south Fargo neighborhood, not far from that gazebo.
