Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Many of us consider our pets to be part of our family and the Red Cross has a new app that puts lifesaving information in the hands of owners.

The Red Cross Pet First Aid app allows owners to recognize health problems, provide emergency care until a vet is available, and locate the nearest pet hospital.

It gives step-by-step information and instructional videos for 25 common first aid emergency situations that includes burns, car accidents, falls, and even frostbite.

Judy Green/Red Cross Dakotas Region CEO: "When we are dog owners or cat owners we really consider them as a beloved part of our family. So, the American Red Cross was very intentional about developing this app."

The app costs .99 and is available in the Google and Android markets.
