Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - North Dakota's extreme weather is often a point of pride for us residents.

But NDSU state climatologist Adnan Akyuz says it's truly one of a kind.

The professor spoke on state climate perspective Friday afternoon at the university's library.

During his speech he showed how the state was among the highest in temperature fluctuation when compared to other states and the rest of the world.

Adnan Akyuz/NDSU State Climatologist: "North Dakota is the coldest state in the United States. They will be surprised to see it is also the fifth warmest state in the United States. Climatic extremes, people talk about, exist in other states but this is the epitome of the climatic extremes."

The range in temperature between the state's record high and low is a staggering 181 degrees Fahrenheit.
