Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Members of the Flood Diversion Authority Finance Committee gives the go ahead to purchase several properties near the proposed diversion.

Committee members met Friday morning in Fargo to approve closing on six different parcels of land, owned by several area farmers.

The group went over land values and prices they're going to pay, with everything funded locally because the state will not chip in until the diversion is fully authorized.

Each farmer contacted the committee, asking members to consider buying the land because many of the properties sit along the diversion footprint.

Darrell Vanyo/Finance Committee Chair: "We have not gone out seeking any contact or negotiations with them, they've called us saying we're interested in talking about selling some land."

Members also approved further negotiations on other parcels of land.
