Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -An ice fishing house was stolen from Bear Lake in Otter Tail County sometime after Tuesday evening. But, what can you do to prevent your house from walking away?

According to the Minnesota DNR, not much. State law requires ice houses to be marked permanently with identification if left unattended overnight, which may deter theft.

But they say it's pretty rare for an ice house to be stolen. It happens about once every couple of years. They find a bigger worry in a break-in.

Chris Vinton, DNR Conservation officer: “Don't leave your augers, depth finders and fishing poles and things like that. Most fish houses aren't built to the same specs as a garden shed. The doors are easier to pry open.

DNR officer Vinton suggests keeping photos and records of your ice house.
