Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -A proposal by Duluth schools could make the district one of the first in the state to do random drug testing.

Duluth administrators say participating in certain activities like sports would make students elegible for testing.

Students and one of their parents would have to consent to the tests.

Deb Johnson, President of the Duluth East PTSA: "As a parent, I'm okay with it. If it's going to curb the drug problem in high schools, then I say ‘go for it.’"

School officials say it’s working in one Wisconsin school because students there don’t’ want to risk losing their privileges.

They say it would cost about $5,000 a year per school to test four students every week.
