Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - With the word blizzard in the forecast, Road crews too are kicking into high gear to prepare.

Crews are laying down sand ahead of the blizzard to give drivers more traction.

Though it will be warmer tonight, the frigid temperatures lately means trucks are using sand more than salt, since salt only works above a certain temperature.

Ben Dow/Fargo Public Works: “we've had a very busy winter with trying to keep our roads clear of the ice buildup because of these cold temperatures. When it gets below zero there's not a lot we can do but sand sand sand sand sand”

Fargo Public Works says it has used over 5,000 tons of its salt and sand mix so far this winter.

Tonight at 10, hear what road crews are doing to preserve the quality of the roads concrete.
