Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The latest invention could make flood protection efforts a lot easier here in the F-M area.
It's known as 'the Tiger Dam'.
It was unveiled this afternoon at the Annual Red River Basin Land and Water International Summit Conference.
What makes the Dam so unique - it's the first ever insurance approved reusable flood protection barrier.
During testing at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - the dams were set up more quickly than sandbags and at less than 1/3 of the cost.
They also withstood giant logs, waves and strong river currents.
Paul Vickers/President, U.S Flood Control Corp.: “This now is an engineered product to sit in place, it's going to work to this limitation - whatever the engineering is on those areas. Each flood is different in each situation.”
It's unknown if the City of Fargo will invest.
The price tag on The Tiger Dam - $ 259,000
