Shooting at New Mexico middle school injures two

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Two middle school students were seriously hurt when they were shot in their school in New Mexico today.

Fargo, N.D. (WDAY TV) -Two middle school students were seriously hurt when they were shot in their school in New Mexico today.

The shooter is reported to be in custody.

Witnesses said a boy student pulled a gun and opened fire, shooting the 14-year-old male student in the face. He was reportedly the target.

Officials at University Medical Center in Texas, say the boy was flown there in critical condition and a 13-year-old girl was en route in serious condition.

The shooting happened at Berrendo Middle School as classes were starting for the day.

Witnesses say it reportedly happened in the school gym, where the children had gathered to get out of the cold.

Gov. Susana Martinez, Governor of New Mexico: “The shooter was quickly stopped by one staff member who walked right up to him and asked him to set down the fire arm which he did. He was also assisted by a state Lieutenant, a state police lieutenant, who was dropping off their own child.

A student who witnessed the shooting says the shooter was a boy who she thought was being bullied.
