Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - The Historic Holmes Theater in Detroit Lakes continues to assemble a floor one cent at a time.

The theater is two months and $3,000 - or 300,000 pennies - into laying a new floor made entirely of the coins.

The theater is still collecting pennies and accepting volunteer help to lay the coins on the floor as they estimate they are halfway through with the project.

Becky Mitchell - Theater Development and Outreach Director: "We'd like to have a couple big pushes and try to get it done before the end of February, but we'll see. The quicker we get it done, the quicker we can get it all sealed up and move on to the next. We have other outreach projects this year. So, we'd like to move on to the next one."

People have also been dropping off foreign coins and other denominations, the theater plans to use those donations to decorate a wall.
