Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's now a North Dakota woman's mission to spread awareness about staying safe when the winter temperatures reach dangerous lows.

Latessa Adamsen and her 6-year-old son were stranded in their car in the ditch for 16 hours.

Latessa left work on Friday and picked up her son. She heard roads were icy.

When she turned onto country road 9, she lost visibility ending up in a ditch.

Her cell phone broke. For 16 hours, they stayed in the car, waiting for someone to help them.

Latessa Adamsen: “I said, ‘Dylan why don't we go into the back seat and just cuddle, and pray to God.’ And so we were in the back seat, I was looking up at the ceiling and we were praying. All of the sudden he jumps up and he's like, ‘Mom, there's a tractor. Mom, the tractor guy.’ And I was like, ‘No there's not,” and I like jumped up and I saw him he was right behind the car.

Both Latesa and Dylan suffered minor frostbite.
