Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The West Fargo girls’ basketball team is perfect so far at 6-0. The Packers are leading the EDC in scoring and sit atop the conference standings.

Barb Metcalf/West Fargo Head Coach: “She's just an all-around athlete; she is gifted with many tools. She is a very unselfish player, she compliments others, she makes others better and she just kind of has that confidence on the court you would never ever gather that she is a freshman.”

Starting in just her first year of varsity, Akealy Moton is leading the Packers in scoring and rebounding.

Akealy Moton/Packers Fr. Guard: “I knew it was going to be harder, I knew I would have to work a lot more, I would have to keep going, if I got tired I can't stop.”

Shelby Gustafson/Packers Sr. Center: “She has helped so much and it's just amazing to see her work ethic being that young and working hard for us out on the court.”

That work ethic on the court stems from a basketball background, Both of her parents played college hoops at Jackson State.

Alonzo Moton/Akealy’s Dad: “Seeing my daughter do something that I couldn't do at her age, like use my left hand as good as she can it makes me feel proud. First one in the gym, last one to leave. Days where they have practice and she comes home she will eat and drink something and she will say dad I need to go to the wellness center and work on my free throws. It makes you feel good.”

Akealy moved to West Fargo from Louisiana just five years ago and has used her skills in the gym to adapt to new environments.

Moton: “Moving was hard, I have always tried to find basketball as my way to go and coupe with something.”

The self-proclaimed gym rat is gearing up to help West Fargo go on a deep post season run, and opponents should be worried because the freshman phenomenon says she's just scratched the surface.

Moton: “I feel like I can always try and improve myself. Work on anything. If I have my coach and I have my teammates there to support me I'll just go up from there.”

And so far the Packers are moving up the standings.

West Fargo has played in the last two state title games, Packers are hoping Moton can get them over the hump.
