Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A Fargo police officer is recovering after being punched in the face, and suffering a broken hand, in a scuffle with a juvenile.

The assault happened Tuesday when officer Jeremiah Ferris responded to a disturbance call at the 1400 block of 35th St.

Three minors between the ages of 16 and 17, who did not live at the apartment, were allegedly threatening someone there.

All three ran away when Ferris arrived, with one throwing the punch when Ferris went to stop him.

A K9 unit eventually tracked down the minor.

Lt. Joel Vettel/Fargo Police Department: “Any time that we have a situation where an officer gets assaulted its certainly concerning and especially when you're dealing with juveniles. I think most people just don't think that that happens, and it certainly does.”

The three juveniles were arrested for a variety of charges, including the assault, and resisting a police officer.

One of the minors had items from a stolen purse earlier in the day, and one had an unrelated warrant out for his arrest.
