Casselton, ND (WDAY TV) - A Montana man on the hunt in Casselton is proving that the bond between man and his best friend, can't be broken.
John Kellems is spending day and night searching for Oliver- a 4 pound pup that went missing Friday, after a rollover car accident near town.
John Kellems/Searching for Oliver: “All the odds are against him.”
Each day John Kellems' starts early and doesn't stop until it's late. NAT
All to search for this little 4 pound Pomeranian Chihuahua mix: Oliver.
Kellems: “He's very faithful, he's very committed. Wherever I go, he's right there.”
The last time John saw his four footed friend- they were traveling after the holidays in John's truck Headed east on I-94.
Kellems: “When I opened my eyes I saw the truck was sliding sideways towards the ditch.”
John's girlfriend behind the wheel and Little Oliver- a PTSD service dog- perched between the front seats.
This is where Oliver went out after we impacted upside-down.
Kellems: “He had been thrown about 100 feet.”
You can still see John's footprints. He tracked Oliver to this tree line after the accident, and believes he spent the first night here.
Kellems: “I figure if he's taken shelter, he has a chance to survive.”
Since then, Oliver has been spotted near the gas station, where John left the truck, some clothes even food to bring him back.
Kellems: “He is scared, he is hurt, but he's also hungry, and very intelligent.”
But in these sub-zero temperatures, John realizes the chances of finding his friend are freezing over.
Kellems: “Every day I look at the reality of the situation, and somebody gives me hope and gets me back out there looking, every day.”
So he's asking the city to search...
Kellems: “I can't leave Casselton until I find him.”
"He's really all I have."
John is offering a $1,000 reward and has set up a Facebook page called "have you seen Oliver" If you spot him, you can message John through the page.
