Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Sanford patients will soon have personalized treatments available to them, after the healthcare organization announced the creation of a genetics testing program.
In an announcement today in Sioux Falls and broadcast to Sanford locations, including Fargo, benefactor Denny Sanford gave a $125,000,000 gift to launch Sanford Ima-genetics.
The genetic testing program will allow doctors to tailor treatments specific to each patient.
The first of its kind genetic medical center will be built in Sioux Falls, but will be available to all patients through outreach programs.
Dr. Julie Bleh/Internal Medicine Physician, Sanford: “ I think it's appropriate that much of this is done in Sioux Falls because they have a large research facility so they have the labs and some of the groundwork already laid. But it is happening here, too, in our collaboration with North Dakota State.”
Sanford will start giving patients the opportunity for genetic testing and counseling later this year.
