Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney is looking to extend his 7 year tenure with a third term.
Laney announced today he wants to continue the job he began in 2007, after winning the race against longtime Sheriff Don Rudnick.
Laney has been in the national spotlight recently with the Casselton train explosion, but says he made up his mind to run again months before.
He says his department's response to floods and the derailment show cases his leadership, and the team he has put together.
Paul Laney/Cass County Sheriff: “We did that as a united front and I hope that’s what people see from me. I don’t think I’m all that and a box of chocolates. I never look in the mirror and say me, I always look in the mirror and say we. But I also realize I’m the quarterback of this team, and I’m the coach of this team all kind of wrapped up into one guy called the sheriff.”
Sheriff hopefuls have until April 7th to file paperwork.
The primary will be June 10th, with the general election slated for November 4th.
