West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - West Fargo city employees working out of file rooms and closets due to cramped space can look forward to an expansion of city hall and the police station.

Commissioners voted Monday night to shell out $8.5 million in bids for the project; Gast Construction, Cote Mechanical, and RBB Electric will work on the expansion.

City administrator Jim Brownlee says the complex will be able to fit double the current staff, which is in line with projected growth.

Jim Brownlee/City Administrator: "We're looking at a full build out of the city of over 40,000 probably within the next 6 or 7 years. So, what we're really designing the new city hall and police station for is for the future. It should be adequate now to get us through that size building and that size police force."

Construction is expected to begin this spring and will take a year to complete.
