Wahpeton, ND (WDAY TV) - A lot of schools were closed because of the weather Monday; not Wahpeton.

It held regularly scheduled classes, despite bitterly cold wind chills.

Wahpeton school district superintendent Rick Jacobson says despite nearly everyone else in the area canceling school, he decided to buck the trend.

Jacobson says that he believes it was premature for Minnesota schools to announce that they were closing when they did so last Friday.

Jacobson says it brings up the question: How cold is too cold to cancel a school day?

Rick Jacobson/Superintendent, Wahpeton Public Schools: “I really didn't feel that we were jeopardizing anyone's safety on this one because we've had kids how many days already this year in school, and to me it was just one of those things, you gotta go with your gut.”

Jacobson says he can recall just one day in his thirty year career school was canceled because of cold temperatures.
