Frisco, TX (WDAY TV) - Although only eleven players can take the field at a time crowds numbering in the tens of thousands contributed in big ways to Bison success this season.

Here's a number for you: there were 20,000 people in attendance. And here's a statistic 90% of them were Bison fans, but when the clock hit 0, the only number they cared about was 3.

“Three peat!"

Fans rushed the field to remember the moment the Bison made history.

Nicole Anderson/NDSU Senior: "We're just all about being together and being a big team! And that's what we're all about."

Some even grabbed unorthodox souvenirs to commemorate the moment.

"Why'd you grab the grass?"

Andy Nestoss/NDSU Fan: "It's history. It's history right here. That's all I have to say."

"Let's go, Bison!"

But off the turf and in the stands the fans were just as effective causing several false starts throughout the game.

And Bison Coach Craig Bohl took notice.

Craig Bohl/NDSU Head Coach: "To see all of our fans to come and really embrace this football team is really special. This is a big league venue and we had a big time crowd following today from our fans. Hats off them."

It was an energized performance to be sure and one the entire nation will likely be hearing about at road stops from Frisco all the way back to Fargo.

For those who are driving round trip it will add up to 2,127 miles that's a lot of highway to fill with gloating.
