Frisco, TX (WDAY TV) - Something tells me it's going to be hard for 24 Bison seniors to sleep Friday night, with not only a third straight national title on their mind, but also a perfect season.
It's become tradition on Championship Eve for Craig Bohl to welcome back the former Bison players to visit with the current team and nearly 200 did that today to visit with this team that is on the precipice of making history.
Dave Piepkorn/Captain 1983 NDSU Team: “Just awesome, literally dozens of guys I haven't seen for 30 years and now the word has kind of spread that the reunion is as much fun as almost anything else. If you look there are literally faces from years gone by. It's just a blast.”
Tony Satter/NDSU Hall of Famer (198701990): “There are guys I played with, I can think of Tommy Adams down in Atlanta, Georgia that I haven't seen him at least once since we played back in 1990. There is a pin dropped in a Google map that Bison Nation has landed and we are all invited.”
Chad Stark/NDSU (1983-1986): “Great reunion, we see players and guys we haven't seen in a long time, get to talk about the past. In fact Bentrim today was talking about the pitch and I said Benny you got the name wrong it's the block that led to the pitch. So we had a lot of fun, it's a great time reminiscing.”
Tyler Roehl/NDSU (2005-2008): “We feel like we had an important role to play with this whole group and it all stems from what Coach Bohl has done for us and the whole staff.”
Now being a part of the former players this almost seems like the biggest even of the weekend.
Matt Veldman/NDSU (2007-2011): “I haven't seen DJ in two years and it's good to be back and see the guys and DJ said something to me this morning he goes you know we haven't seen each other and two years but we can pick up right where we left off. Like just joking around and hanging out everything. Really special to get together like this and not only be able to but everyone is here.”
I asked Chad Stark who would win, the 86 Bison or this 2013 squad, he said no comment on that.
