Frisco, TX (WDAY TV) - How confident is Governor Jack Dalrymple that NDSU will defeat Towson in the National championship Saturday?
Confident enough that he's willing to bet low carb pasta on it.
Maryland's governor is putting crab cakes on the line, seems a little more logical.
Hi everyone and welcome back to Frisco on Championship Eve as we get set for NDSU and Towson tomorrow. One of the glue guys of the Bison defense is also one of the most underrated players on the team, Fargo South product Danny Luecke, who blew out his knee his freshman year after walking on to the team. He persevered and has now become one of the main stays of the Bison defense.
Danny Luecke/NDSU Sr. Defensive Tackle: “It is an amazing blessing, straight and simple, I think every good and perfect thing comes from above and I praise God and thank him for this opportunity. The family of teammates and players that we have here is just like none other and I praise God for that and I thank him for that every day.”
Cole Jirik/NDSU Sr. Defensive End: “Danny is a really great story for our team, when he came in he tore up his knee he battled through that and now he is one of our better players. He does a lot for this team, every week in practice he brings a lot of energy to this team which is awesome and kind of gets everything going each week. Danny's probably everyone's favorite on the team.”
Brock Jensen/NDSU Sr. Quarterback: “He's an unbelievable guy, he's a great football player but he's an even better guy. He leads our team in Bible study and he's a great friend of mine and he goes out there ever game and regardless if he is getting interviewed after the game or not he is giving it his all every play.”
Grant Olson/NDSU Sr. Linebacker: “Championship teams need guys like Danny Luecke to do what they do. He's been a huge part of what we've done. Just being able to do all things that he's done he's a guy that makes practice more fun, he's a guy that's fun to be around, he's a guy that everybody loves and really respects and he works his butt off and the program wouldn't be the same without him.”
Did you ever think after the knee injury Danny that maybe that this isn't gonna work out?
Luecke: “I definitely thought a couple times this isn't my path and I wasn't gonna make it. That was where my faith came even stronger and even more real for me. When it was too hard for me to handle on my own I knew I could trust in God. That is really what pulled me through this entire situation and got me to the place where I am today.”
Luecke figures to be a key member to try and stop Terrance West in Saturday's game.
