Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Dangerously cold temperatures pushed Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton to close schools statewide on Monday.

He's made the decision to call off the class in the whole state.

Grades Kindergarten through 12th grade will not have to show up to their normal schedules, which hasn't been done since 1997 when temps plunged 32 degree below.

Dave Lawrence/Moorhead High Principal: "When you're canceling school three days in advance I think you're probably playing on the safe safe side so I think it's probably a good idea to make a blanket statement when it's supposed to be as cold as it's supposed to be. So, probably a good idea."

North Dakota Governor, Jack Dalrymple, is giving superintendents in North Dakota the decision on whether to call school off on Monday.
