West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A local teenager went to extensive lengths to get a date, and ended up facing a Class A misdemeanor charge.

An 18-year-old male has been questioned after firefighters responded to two false 911 calls reporting a fire at Lodoen Community Center.

The young man said he was trying to get a dance line practice at the center cancelled.

Evidently, one of the dancers had agreed to go on a date with him, if he accomplished that task.

Chief Mike Reitan/West Fargo Police Department: “Anytime there's a requirement of an emergency response, it's a very serious matter. This particular case, it was threat of a fire in a public building that too can be harmful to the public.”

A class A misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of a year in jail and a three-thousand dollar fine.
