Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The Bison Nation has started its migration south for the championship game in Frisco, Texas but weather troubles have put up a few hurdles for fans of the herd.

It's crunch time for travelers trying to get down to Frisco, and making matters worse, the weather, not just for the passengers but for the airlines that are trying to redirect them as well.

Shawn Dobberstein/Executive Director, Airport Authority: "They want you to leave on time and get to your destination on time but there are things that are out of their control and Mother Nature certainly is having their way with that today."

A lake effect snow warning today in Chicago, one of the main connection airports for folks flying out of Hector, is compounding lingering delay and cancellation issues created by heavy snow over the last few days. Add to that the busy holiday travel, and open seats on other flights are becoming a hot commodity.

Dobberstein: "If there is a cancelled flight it’s very difficult for the airline to find another seat for you either out of your originating city or obviously going to your destination city because it is so full."

And the Frisco Bound are starting to feel the headaches from those cancellations.

Carla Nelson/Frisco Bound Traveler: "Some friends of ours were supposed to fly out this morning and their flight got cancelled."

Four flights have been cancelled between American and United out of Fargo to Chicago today, and the alternatives don't seem to be an easier.

Nelson: “They were going to try and drive to Minneapolis because they had a flight out of there at 8 tonight. They bought a ticket on a bus and their bus got cancelled so they had a 100 dollar non-refundable there."

The best advice airport officials have for getting you to Frisco - be patient, persistent, and keep working with the airlines.

Dobberstein: "The airlines have been busing people down to Minneapolis or sending people to Bismarck, Sioux Falls, Grand Forks, Jamestown, Watertown, Thief River Falls, Brainerd, Bemidji - wherever they can find seats to get the people to their destination, that's what they've been doing."
