Bison prepare for third straight trip to Frisco

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A lot has been made about NDSU's run for a 3rd straight national championship, but think about all the time put in. This year alone, NDSU will have played a game in six different months in the calendar year. Even more impressive, seniors Cole Jirik and Michael Murphy will be playing in their 59th game on Saturday.

That's an average of just under 15 games per year, 1 game shy of an NFL regular season.

Several players have played through injuries, a toughness Craig Bohl was seeking for back when he was recruiting this group.

Craig Bohl/NDSU Head Coach: “It's always a difficult thing to identify, you try and learn that and ask the high school coach a lot of questions and watch a lot of high school games. A lot of these guys we watched in person, weather it was Billy Turner returning a kick or Travis Beck playing up in Langdon. To persevere you have to have toughness, certainly physical athleticism is important, but the toughness to be able to hang in there. That is not only shown by playing through injury but that is shown by all your habits in the off season. When other guys are not wanting to be so emotionally, physically committed these guys have done it and they have been a joy to coach.”
