Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - North Dakota leads the country in population growth, setting a new record for the state.
New census estimates released today say North Dakota is now over the 723,000 mark.
More than 22,000 people have populated North Dakota since last year, nearly twice the expansion rate as the next fastest growing state, and a 3.1% increase over 2012, making realtors pretty happy.
Scott Breidenbach/Realtor, ParkCo. Realtors: "North Dakota is doing well, obviously Fargo, we've done really well in Fargo we do see some oil money trickling this way."
And that oil boom to the west is what experts believe are driving the nation-leading numbers, but the West Fargo and F-M area is experiencing an expansion of its own.
Breidenbach: "There’s been a sizable increase in the number of sales and transactions in our market."
Developments like Boulevard square here are sprouting up quite a bit more often than in previous years"
With 400 new West Fargo construction projects in 2013's 3rd quarter alone, more than doubling the 155 during that time in 2010.
Breidenbach: "I think AG and technology expansion in the western side of the city has been well with sanford going in over there and Costco"
Letting the Fargo area help set the pace for state growth.
Breidenbach: "Very fortunate to be living where we are and selling real estate. It’s just been a great year."
Along with population, North Dakota is also leading in job growth, adding 18,000 jobs since last year, a 4% increase.
