Vikings win final game in Metrodome

Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) - The Minnesota Vikings have called the Metrodome home for the last 31 years, Sunday they said goodbye to the stadium playing one last game in it before relocating to the University of Minnesota for two years, while a new stadium is built on the same site.

Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) - The Minnesota Vikings have called the Metrodome home for the last 31 years, Sunday they said goodbye to the stadium playing one last game in it before relocating to the University of Minnesota for two years, while a new stadium is built on the same site.

The Vikings looking to close out a disappointing season on a high note, against the Detroit Lions, both teams without their best players, Adrian Peterson and Calvin Johnson inactive with injuries.

Former NDSU tight end Matt Veldman made his NFL debut for the Lions, seeing the field on special teams.

In the first quarter Cordarrelle Patterson keeps making his case for Rookie of the Year, he takes the pitch and reverses field, Patterson flies to the end zone for the 50 yard score, he becomes the first player in NFL History with a 100 yard kickoff return touchdown, 75 yard receiving touchdown and a 50 yard TD run in the same season.

Vikings lead 7-0 at the half.

Detroit starts to roar in the second, Matthew Stafford finds Reggie Bush lined up out wide; Bush eludes some tacklers and scores, tied up at 7.

Couple guys maybe playing in their last game with Minnesota get sacks, Jared Allen goes over 10 for a 7th straight season, and on the goal line Kevin Williams trips up Stafford for a sack, the Vikings defense had 5 total Sunday.

But Minnesota trailed 13-7 in the 4th, but the one thing they have done well all year is return the football,

Marcus Sherels with the 50 yard punt return, the former Gopher gets it all the way down to the 8 yard line, that sets up the rookie Patterson one more time, Matt Cassel with the nice throw, Patterson scores.

Minnesota wins the Metrodome finale 14-13.

Patterson also set the Vikings Franchise kickoff return yards record in the game, Minnesota wins the first game and the last game in the Metrodome and the players say they are happy they could close out the year with a win.

Kevin Williams/2 Tackles, Sack: “We wanted to play good today, whether it's our last game or not, it's definitely the last one in the Dome, but we wanted to send it out right and I think we were able to.”

Cordarrelle Patterson/136 All-Purpose Yards, 2 TD (Rush, Rec): “I enjoyed my first year, it was great memories here in the Dome, we couldn't do it without the fans behind our back 100 percent. Each game I'm always enjoying it, I'm always smiling, just trying to make plays, trying to help my team out.”
