MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Poker players are vying for a $50,000 top prize during the 10th annual Texas Hold'em Championship in Minot.

The Minot Daily News reports that proceeds from the tournament go to fund marketing scholarships for the Minot State University Alumni Foundation.

The championship runs through Tuesday at The Vegas Motel.

Tournament co-founder Wendy Rupert says the prize pool has grown to $172,000, and players have attended from 39 different states.

Minot State University marketing majors help to promote the event. Rupert says they learn how the tournament's organizers gather and collect information, how they contact current and future poker players and work with different communities to promote the event.
