GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The new head football coach of the University of North Dakota says he's happy to return home to the place where he served as an assistant coach for 15 years.

Kyle "Bubba' Schweigert fought back tears Friday when he was introduced as the 26th head coach in UND football history. He says he never wanted to leave UND, but departed for the opportunity to become head coach at Minnesota-Duluth.

The 51-year-old Zeeland native calls the UND job "an awesome experience for a kid that grew up in small town North Dakota."

Schweigert will make $150,000 a year in base pay as part of a four-year deal. The pay pool for his assistant coaches was increased from $370,000 to $450,000.

Schweigert replaces Chris Mussman, who was fired after six seasons.
