Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Gifts are open, and now that space under the Christmas tree is looking a little vacant.

Soon the ornaments will come down too.

And after that what do you do with your bare tree?

If you didn't go the artificial route, the cities of Fargo and Moorhead can help.

They will be collecting and chipping the trees starting January 6th.

During the 2 week pickup period, both cities ask that you leave your tree next to your regular garbage and keep any stands, decorations or plastic wrapping off.

Daniela Abel/Fargo Resident: “I never know what to do with my tree. I mean I love real trees but do I put it on the side of the road, do I put in the dumpster? I don't know what to do with it. Ever.”

If you are wanting to discard your tree sooner than January 6th, you can bring it to the landfill to be chipped into mulch.
