Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - The NDSU football team has a chance to accomplish a perfect season on January 4th against Towson.

Marshall was the last team to go undefeated at the FCS level.

That was seventeen years ago; the Marshall Thundering Herd went 15-0, led by All-American's Erik Kresser at quarterback and wide receiver Randy Moss.

The Thundering Herd capped their perfect season beating Montana in the 1996 Championship.

Now the Bison have a chance to become the newest member of that unbeaten champion club.

And North Dakota State is doing it in similar fashion to Marshall.

Look at the comparisons.

Marshall edges it out offensively scoring 43.9 points per game, the Bison just behind them at 39.

The big scoring difference though was the Thundering Herd topped 40 points 10 times, where the Bison have done it just 5.

NDSU wins the defensive matchup; the Bison allow just 11.6 points per game to the opponent, Marshall gave up 14 per game.
