BOWMAN, N.D. (AP) — Trial has been delayed for a woman in the southwestern North Dakota town of Bowman who's accused of drowning her newborn baby in a toilet.

Forty-two-year-old Stephanie Lindstrom has pleaded not guilty to murder and was to stand trial this month. The Dickinson Press reports that the trial has been moved to early February because of a delay in results from a mental health evaluation Lindstrom underwent at the State Hospital in Jamestown.

Authorities allege that Lindstrom gave birth in the bathroom of her home on July 23, and the baby was found in the toilet. The state medical examiner determined the baby had been born alive and died of drowning.

Lindstrom faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted.
